It's NOT covering you from being responsible for the excess amount in case of damage/theft. To be honest I only recently figured out what is SLI. Now, you are stating that you got the SLI (supplemental liability insurance) at Avis. This amount is usually stated in your reservation, and on your rental agreement, and in Europe in my experience it's usually 1500 euros and max 2000 Euros. There is effectively always the maximum amount/excess for which you will be responsible in case of damage/theft. That's not an actual insurance, but as the name says it waives you from financial responsibility in case of theft or damage, but ONLY to a certain amount, called excess. The rent-a-car threads here on the forum are endless and very useful and I am sorry that you weren't here before (I assume you are a new member?)Ĭar rental companies, in Europe, North America, anywhere, offer so called CDW, collision damage waiver. However, I am sorry that this has happened to you. This has nothing to do with Vienna airport However, despite paying for the option of CDW and SLI (supplemental liability insurance) according to Budget (Avis) I am apparently still liable for damage caused when the car is not being driven + it is car parked off the road in a private car park + the Avis accident report was filled and signed by both parties + even when the party who caused the damage has provided a letter of responsibility + provided the name and policy number of their own insurance company + the event was notified to the local police.!!!?Īnd where is the "peace of mind" they offered and for which I paid?īudget should be claiming the total repair from the other parties insurance company, or perhaps they have done that also, as well as charge me.? who can tell what is happening, they have not listened to my letters/emails and they know I am now out of the country. Most people have a car rental horror story of their own.Īnd having read a couple of stories at regarding megadrive at Vienna airport, I decided to pay more and go with Budget (ie: Avis) and have the "peace of mind" which they promote in their extra cover which is offered in the agreement.
